Welcome, human being.
At Being Human, we’re interested in how people like you make sense of your experience in light of current science.
As part of our community, you will encounter a playful, warm, intellectual group that explores big questions with lightness and curiosity. Together, we will bring our view of what it means to be human into the twenty-first century.
Life now is complex, intersubjective, cross disciplinary—and very exciting. There are no easy answers. We invite you to join us, explore the uncertainty, and delight in the things we are all discovering.
In Thriving, you are invited to discuss the latest ideas in neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, and evolutionary biology—and how they apply to our everyday lives. Thriving has three subsections: Life, Trends, and Being Human A-Z.
-
Life asks, “What do these ideas mean for me?” by examining how cutting-edge science and philosophy relate to the individual human experience.
-
Trends asks, “What do these ideas mean for our world?” by exploring how current scientific understanding relates to the broader societal and cultural human experience.
-
Being Human A-Z is a series of reflections on what it means to be human by Peter Baumann, Founder of BeingHuman.org.
In Discovering, experts focus on the science behind BeingHuman.org. Here, scientists discuss their research, answer questions about the human experience, and explore how our ideas have changed over the years. Discovering has three subsections: Big Questions, Dialogs, and The Lab.
-
Big Questions is a forum where a variety of scientists and thinkers address timeless questions about human nature. You can find More Big Questions at the bottom of the Discovering page.
-
Dialogs are interviews with researchers about their areas of expertise, focused on how their studies relate to everyday life.
-
The Lab explores the human experience through history, biology, psychology, genetics, neuroscience, and other sciences.
In Connecting, you can become part of the Being Human community, and let your voice be heard.
-
Connecting features blog posts, discussions, images, thoughts, puzzles, and other content created by the Being Human community.
-
You can make friends (“connect”) with other members.
