I have clarity of vision when I'm angry, but I'm at my creative best when I'm carrying a mischievous attitude, ready to break the rules and remix the elements. My last major aha moment was realizing the preceding. It was during the quiet aftermath of a workshop on personal innovation. A friend, Sammie, leads workshops that involve the origin and expression of personal visions. She said that a number of baby boomers report that it arose out of anger - rebelling against stupidity in the system. For Generation Y and the Millennials participants, it is borne out of shared, cooperative experiences. It's a small sample and so I don't want to overgeneralize, but it caught my attention.

That's really interesting, Alan. I've been having quite a few conversations lately about the differences in perception between the generations—this is a nice piece of data to add to my musings.

My last Aha moment burst into flower just a moment ago, when I realized that the incomprehensible behavior of my friend could be easily and parsimoniously explained by the fact of his dipsomania. It was so obvious, once I thought of it.

My biggest epiphanies come when I get outside of a situation a little bit and look back at it from a vantage point. That perspective tends to bring with it an aha! experience of seeing the forest, instead of being lost in the trees.
